COMPANIONSHIP

Fifteen employees of Apeejay Surrendra Group in Mumbai spent some time with 62 orphan, street and destitute children at Bandra East Community Centre (BECC). The volunteers were led by Ms Prarthana Unkalkar, Head – iVolunteer Centre, Bangalore, Mr Mayank Shukla, Relationship Executive, Mumbai; Ms. Prarthana Gupta , Relationship Manager, iVolunteer India Fellow, Mumbai and Ms. Srishti Khanna , Relationship manager, iVolunteer Centre, Mumbai. The event started with 2-3 energizer games which were aimed at making the volunteers and children comfortable with each other. After that, the facilitators divided them in 4 groups with each group busy doing an activity like paintings and discussion on various topics like pollution, environment as well as their resolutions for 2009. The groups then got together and presented their creations. The session was followed by an ethics workshop which covered volunteer’s feedback about the event in short and also a short session on Do’s and Don’ts of volunteering and what next to be done. The volunteers spent 2 hours at the NGO.
