Twenty employees of Apeejay Surrendra Group, led by Ms Prarthana Unkalkar, Head – iVolunteer Centre, Bangalore and Mr Ankur Paharia, Volunteer Relationship Executive, iVolunteer, Bangalore, in spent some time with 50 physically challenged kids, aged 4 to 7 years, at The Association of People with Disability (APD) today. The day started with volunteers and children being divided into 5 groups with each group being assigned a painting activity. This was followed by a session on recitation of rhymes and games like Fire in the Mountain. After this, the volunteers visited various departments of APD like horticulture, various training centres, school and newspaper recycle division. One notable session was a 7-year-old child teaching alphabets to volunteers in sign language. The day ended with an ethics workshop which covered volunteers’ feedback about the event in short and also session on Do’s and Don’ts of volunteering and what next. The volunteers spent two and a half hours at the NGO. Earlier, they had attended a training session on volunteering by the iVolunteer resource persons on 23rd October 2008.
